IJC19 – Investigative Journalism Conference -2019

The Regional Press Development Institute is inviting you to the annual National Conference of investigative journalists of Ukraine (December 13-15, Kyiv, Ukraine).

This year the major thematic approach of the conference is Investigative Journalism in New Media Reality.

The objective of the conference: contribution to the development of the network of investigative journalists in Ukraine and their integration into the global professional community.

The Investigative Journalism Conference (IJC) is organized by Regional Press Development Institute and gathers several hundred investigative reporters from Eastern Europe to shares their experience in investigative techniques and addressing challenges and constraints that they are facing in daily work. Last year the conference was attended by 277 participants and speakers form 19 countries.

This year the major thematic approach of the conference is Investigative Journalism in New Media Reality.

It consists of several topics that we’d like to touch at the conference:

  • Information availability – open data, global surveillance vs privacy rights, leaks and whistleblowers vs classifying and encrypting information;
  • Media consumption and communication model – multilateral and equal communication, social networks, manipulation and misinformation, impact of investigations, solutions journalism in investigative reporting;
  • Technologies for gathering information, media formats, storytelling and reaching the audience;
  •  Formats and tasks of education and trainings of investigative journalism;
  • Financing models of investigative reporting.

 Charles Lewis is a tenured professor and the founding executive editor of the Investigative Reporting Workshop at the American University in Washington, D.C. A former producer for ABC News and CBS News 60 Minutes, he founded two Pulitzer Prize-winning nonprofit news organizations, the Center for Public Integrity and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. A best-selling author/co-author of six books, he was awarded the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence in 2018.

Conditions of participation:

 Free of charge

Ukrainian journalists with experience in investigative journalism can apply for a competitive selection.

For your application to be considered, please fill in the registration form till November, 15, 2019 (24:00).

We will confirm invitation till November, 22 (24:00).

The participation in the Conference will be free of charge, the participants will be able to take part in the events and receive the handouts.

The participants from other cities will get a reimbursement of the travel and accommodation expenses (you will get more details after the confirmation of the registration).

Conference registration fees

All other journalists can get an invitation to the Conference with a guarantee by paying the registration fee of 4500 UAH for one participant.

A registration fee gives the right to participate in all the meetings during the Conference and receive the handouts.

These participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses (the organizers can assist with booking).
